Why Ceylon Cinnamon is the Modern Standard for Safety

While both Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon offer health benefits, modern toxicology highlights a critical difference: coumarin content. Cassia cinnamon contains significant levels of coumarin (up to 1%), a natural compound that can cause liver and kidney damage if consumed daily in large amounts. In contrast, Ceylon cinnamon contains only trace amounts (approx. 0.004%), making it roughly 250 times safer for long-term therapeutic use. Because of this, global health experts and 2025 clinical reviews recommend Ceylon as the only variety suitable for daily supplementation or high-dose culinary use.
